Who Done It?


These tracks were found at low tide on a sand bar in Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast in September. The setting sun has helped to highlight the tracks

What is the story in this photo? [ View Answer ]


A gull walked from the lower left to the middle right of this photo. Suddenly it turned 90 degrees towards the upper left of the photo and started running to pickup speed and lift. After a few strides, the gull was able to lift off the ground in flight.

If you are interested in the species, it was most likely a Western-Glaucous-wing hybrid, one of the more common gulls in this area.
